Natural Gas Submetering

Accurate natural gas measurement is critical for cost allocation, leak detection, regulatory compliance, and process optimization. Emergent provides three approaches to natural gas metering — utility meter pulse integration, inline gas submeters, and insertion thermal mass meters — matched to your facility's needs.

Three Approaches

The right gas metering for every facility

Utility Gas Meter Integration

Integration through pulse outputs installed by the utility company. Since the gas meter is a utility asset, we request the end user makes the request to their utility. Emergent supplies bridge hardware to integrate pulses and convert to flow (cubic feet) or energy (therms/kWh).

  • Pulse output requested from local utility
  • Bridge hardware converts pulses to flow / energy
  • Utility owns calibration, maintenance, replacement
  • Highest reliability — utility-grade measurement

New Inline Gas Sub-Meters

Recommended where power is limited and temperature range is a concern. Installation requires pipe modifications including bypass for zero-shutdown installation.

  • Suited for sites with limited power & wide temperature range
  • Requires pipe modifications + bypass for live install
  • BACnet and Modbus RTU outputs
  • Analog and pulsed outputs for maximum flexibility

Insertion Thermal Mass Gas Sub-Meters

Recommended where space is limited and pipe modifications aren't practical. Pressure and temperature compensated. Lowest installed cost when power is available.

  • Pressure and temperature compensated
  • Installed via thread-o-let, ball valve, compression coupling
  • Lowest installed cost when power is available
  • Removable for service without system shutdown

Gas Meter Data Integration

Emergent Energy utilizes the Panoramic Power cloud dashboard as the primary integration platform for gas meters — unifying gas data alongside electric, water, and steam in a single dashboard.

Integration approach

Emergent coordinates pulse output requests with your utility, then installs bridge hardware to capture and transmit gas flow data. For new submetering points, we supply inline or insertion meters with MODBUS / BACnet. All gas data unified alongside electric, water, and steam in a single dashboard.

Key Applications

Where gas submetering delivers value

  • Utility gas meter pulse output integration
  • Boiler and heating system consumption monitoring
  • Commercial kitchen gas load allocation
  • Process gas monitoring in manufacturing
  • Multi-tenant natural gas cost allocation
  • Leak detection and threshold alerting
  • Thermal efficiency verification for boilers
  • Regulatory and utility compliance reporting
  • ESG Scope 1 emissions tracking
  • Energy budget forecasting and variance reporting
